The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the 2006 Senior Student Show on April 13. Showcasing the work of 32 students from the Departments of Art and Cinema and Photography, the exhibition includes works in a wide range of media and highlights the diversity of contemporary art practices at Ithaca College. The public is invited to attend the opening reception from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13. In addition, a catered Lunchtime Salon will be held in the Gallery on Tuesday, April 18 from noon to 2:00 p.m. to give students, faculty, staff and the public a chance to eat, drink and discuss work in the 2006 Senior Show. Featuring work by faculty in the Departments of Art, Art History, Cinema and Photography, and the Television-Radio, the exhibition highlights the diversity of contemporary art practices at Ithaca College. The Handwerker Gallery is pleased to announce the opening “Light Boxes/Dark Rooms,” a traveling exhibition organized and circulated by the De Pree Gallery, Hope College, Michigan, on Thursday, October 6.

“Light Boxes/Dark Rooms” presents work by three contemporary Japanese artists, Shinji Ogawa, Tomoaki Shitara, and Ko Yamada, who explore basic themes in art such as the nature of imagery and the nature of looking. Their sources, which include Zen philosophy, postmodern theories, and contemporary film, demonstrate a sophisticated and erudite knowledge of the world.
