blood drop

Did you know that a pint of blood can save up to three lives? Giving blood is a great way to give back and be someone’s hero. Most people don’t think that they will ever need blood, but many people do. More than 41,000 blood donations are needed everyday! In order to be eligible to donate blood you must be healthy, at least 18 years old, and weigh at least 110 lbs. A donor can donate blood every 56 days. Blood donation is a simple four-step process: registration, medical history and mini-physical, donation and refreshments. Every blood donor is given a mini-physical, checking the donor's temperature, blood pressure, pulse and hemoglobin to ensure it is safe for the donor to give blood. The actual blood donation typically takes less than 10-12 minutes. The entire process, from the time you arrive to the time you leave, takes about an hour and 15 min.  For more information, check out the Red Cross website.

Want to give blood? Check out the Red Cross Blood Drive on campus Tuesday, December 10th from 10am-5pm in Emerson Suites! Please call 1-800-RED CROSS or email redcross@ithaca.edu  to set up your appointment.
