Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance

You may also select accident insurance, which pays your beneficiary an amount in addition to your life insurance if you die as a result of an accident. A benefit may also be payable to you if you are hurt in an accident, depending on the seriousness of the injury. College benefit credits include an amount sufficient to purchase coverage equivalent to approximately one times your base salary. Coverage is available in multiples of $20,000, up to a maximum of $300,000.

Your spouse or qualified domestic partner can also receive accident insurance (if no other dependents are covered) for 50 percent of your protection level. If you also wish to purchase coverage for your children, your spouse or qualified domestic partner would be insured for 40 percent of your amount and each of your children for 10 percent of your coverage level, with an individual maximum of $10,000 per child.

Accident insurance is paid for with after-tax dollars.

We have enriched the current AD&D plan for 2010, now called the “AD&D Ultra” plan. This is at no additional cost to you! If you are already enrolled in AD&D for 2009, you will not need to re-elect coverage for 2010; it will roll over automatically.

Effective January 1, 2010, this coverage will additionally pay benefits for the following* losses and conditions: loss of eyesight; hearing or speech; loss of limb; loss of limb use due to paralysis; disfiguring third-degree burns; coma; paralysis; total disability; and accidental death, including death due to exposure to natural or chemical elements, and presumed death due to disappearance.
