Accessing Employee Self-Service

Scope

This procedure covers logging into Parnassus Employee Self-Service.

Policy

Internet Explorer is the supported browser for Employee Self-Service.

Protect the confidentiality of information accessed through Employee Self-Service by:

• Always properly disconnecting from Parnassus by clicking on the Logout hyperlink on the home page.
• Always closing all browser windows when you are finished if you have accessed Parnassus from a public computer.

Activity Preface

You must know your username and your password.

Your personal information may not exist completely or have been verified immediately upon your first day of work. However, your Parnassus record will be complete before the first payroll cutoff after your New-Hire Session.  Thus, it is best to access Employee Self-Service after you have received your first paycheck.

The job title Employee refers to:

1. Access Parnassus Login.

• Open Internet Explorer.

There are many ways to connect to Parnassus; two are provided below: either enter the web address in the browser directly, or access the page through the Ithaca College website.

• 1 - Navigate to the ACE main page by typing "vail.ithaca.edu/ace" in your browser address bar.
• 2 - Go to www.ithaca.edu > Click "Working at Ithaca" > Click on the Parnassus icon for "Employee Self-Service"

• Click on the Parnassus tab.

Parnassus is the Information System that hosts Employee Self Service.  You have to access this system in order to get to Employee Self Service.

• Select Production.

This is the instance that contains live data; it is the most up-to-date.

2. Enter your Username and Password.

Your username was given to you at your New-Hire Session.  It is the same as your email username.  Usually it is the first letter of your first name followed by your full last name.  For example, Pamela Jones would be “pjones”.

If, for some reason, you are unable to access Parnassus Production, and you have an active Ithaca College e-mail account, you can reset your own password by clicking on the “I forgot my password.” hyperlink near the bottom of the Production log in window.

You were given your initial password at your new-hire session.  Your initial password is the characters '%IC' (case sensitive), followed by the last 6 digits of your Employee Identification Number. For instance: '%IC123456'. When you logon for the first time, you will be prompted to change your password.

If this is your first time logging in to Parnassus, goto task #3. Otherwise, goto task #4.

3. Change your password.

When you logon for the first time, the following dialog box will prompt you to change your password.

• Enter your initial password (the letters 'IC' (in CAPS), a percent sign '%', and the last 6 digits of your Employee Identification Number; i.e. 'IC%123456') in the "Old Password" box.
• Enter your new password in the New Password box.
  
  
• Passwords in Employee Self-Service
  • are used to preserve confidential information.
  • should not be shared with any other person.
  • should be easy to remember, yet not easily guessed.
    
    
• Password Requirements for Parnassus are as follows:

  • The password must be a minimum of 8 characters.
  • Passwords must consist of a combination of letters, numbers and one or more of the following special characters:
  • ! (exclamation point)
  • % (percent sign)
  • * (asterisk)
  • + (plus sign)
  • - (dash or minus sign)
  • ? (question mark)
  • _ (underscore)
  • Your username cannot be used as, or included in the password.
  • Passwords will expire every 120 days.
  • Passwords cannot be reused within the last 18 months.
  • Accounts will be locked out after a certain number of failed login attempts within a set period of time (to be determined on a system-by-system basis).

• Repeat the password exactly in the Repeat New Password box.
• Click the [Save] button.

If Parnassus does not accept your password, help is available by contacting the HelpDesk (274-3282 or helpdesk@ithaca.edu) or Human Resource Information (274-3245 or hrsystem@ithaca.edu).

4. Click the “IC Employee Self-Service” hyperlink.

5. Select the menu item that relates to the action you would like to perform.

From this menu you will continue to work with employee self-service.

6. Click the “Logout” link (at the top right of the page) when finished with Employee Self-Service to properly disconnect from Parnassus.
