Native American Homecoming Festival Slated For Tutelo Park

ITHACA, NY — Ithaca College is a cosponsor of the “Native American Homecoming Festival: Welcoming Cayuga, Tutelo, Saponi and Kindred Indian Nations” event on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Tutelo Park. The park is located at 151 Bostwick Rd., off Rt. 13A in the Town of Ithaca. The festival is free and open to the public.

Highlights of the festival will include

  • traditional flute music by Dan Hill
  • Sherri Waterman Hopper and the Haudenosaunee Singers and Dancers
  • storytelling and teaching about the Great Law by Perry Ground
  • cornhusk doll making with Marcela Kane
  • medicine plant walks with Mike DeMunn
  • Three Sisters teaching with Jane Mt. Pleasant
  • stone carving by world-renowned artist Dave Greene
  • a water drum-making demonstration by Allen Underwood
  • traditional arts, crafts and food

The festival will also feature displays by the Ithaca College archeology program, Cornell University American Indian Program, Cayuga SHARE Farm, and human resources departments at both Ithaca College and Cornell.

The Native American Homecoming Festival is sponsored by the Multicultural Resource Center, Ithaca College, Cornell University and Wells College. It is hosted by the Town of Ithaca and made possible with funding from a Tompkins County Celebrations grant and the Community Arts Partnership.
