Ithaca College Calendar Of Events For Feb. 24-March 1

 

SUNDAY, FEB. 24

MUSIC:          Fifth Annual Ithaca College Klezmorim concert; 7 p.m., Emerson Suites, Phillips Hall. “Music of 20th-Century Russian Composers,” a faculty recital by flutist Kelly Covert, with pianist Charis Dimaras and violist Debra Moree, performing music by Taktakishvili, Prokofiev, Denisov and Gubaidulina; 4 p.m., Hockett Family Recital Hall, Whalen Center.

 THEATER:     Ithaca College Theatre performance of “La Finta Giardiniera,” Mozart’s opera of mistaken identity, spurned heroines, raving lunacy and Italian passion; 2 p.m., Clark Theatre, Dillingham Center (admission charged).

TUESDAY, FEB. 26

FORUM:        WomenSpeak, an annual program of talks, readings, and performances by faculty, staff, students, and alumnae; 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., Klingenstein Lounge, Egbert Hall.

MUSIC:          Recital by the Ithaca College Symphonic Band, conducted by Elizabeth Peterson, with the Ithaca Brass, playing works by Boysen, Whitacre, Tull, Shostakovich and others; 8:15 p.m., Ford Hall, Whalen Center.

LECTURE:     Black History Month talk by political advocate and Black Entertainment Television (BET) correspondent Jeff Johnson; 7 p.m., Emerson Suites, Phillips Hall.

MUSIC:           “The ABC’s of America’s Composers” a recital by the Ithaca College Concert Band, conducted by Mark Fonder, featuring percussionist Gordon Stout, playing works by Adler, Anderson, Barber, Bernstein, Copland and others; 8:15 p.m., Ford Hall, Whalen Center.

THEATER:     Ithaca College Theatre performance of “La Finta Giardiniera,” Mozart’s opera of mistaken identity, spurned heroines, raving lunacy and Italian passion; 8 p.m., Clark Theatre, Dillingham Center (admission charged).

THURSDAY, FEB. 28

ART:          Opening receptions for “Of the People: Inuit Sculpture from the Collection of Mary and Fred Widding” and “Running the Numbers: An American Self-Portrait”; 5–7 p.m., Handwerker Gallery.

SATURDAY, MARCH 1

MUSIC:          School of Music annual concerto program featuring the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Jeffery Meyer, and the student winners of the concert competition giving solo performances; 8:15 p.m., Ford Hall, Whalen Center.  

CONTINUING EXHIBITS

            “From Downtown to South Hill: Ithaca College Is Ithaca’s College,” a multimedia display recounting the 115-year history of the college; History Center in Tompkins County, 401 E. State St., Ithaca; runs through Feb. 28.

            “Of the People: Inuit Sculpture from the Collection of Mary and Fred Widding,” curated by Ithaca College museology students, and “Running the Numbers: An American Self-Portrait”; both exhibits open Feb. 28 and run through April 6, Handwerker Gallery. The gallery is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m.–6 p.m. (Thursday until 9 p.m.); Saturday and Sunday, noon–5 p.m.
