My training is in the history of architecture and urbanism, which I teach at all levels of the curriculum, to both majors and non-majors. I studied Art History, French, and Russian as an undergraduate at the University of Maryland, which led to me to graduate study in the history of French and Russian architecture at Cornell University. While my research focuses on the architectural traditions of these two countries, my teaching engages me with architecture and cities around the world--and fuels my personal interest in architectural photography. Recent teaching projects include teaching Google SketchUp modeling to students taking my course in the history of Urban Design (Great Spaces, ARTH 233) and studying "green building" principles practiced in traditional architectural cultures (Architecture Across Cultures, ARTH 114). When not teaching, researching or photographing I might be found cooking, reading, swimming, or museum-going with my husband, a landscape architect, and our 11 year-old daughter.
