Frequently Asked Questions

What first Art History course should I take if I am interested in exploring a possible major in Art History?

Students who are interested in exploring Art History as a possible major, and also working toward satisfying the general education requirements of the School of Humanities and Sciences, should take either ARTH 11100 Episodes in Western Art, ARTH 13500 Introduction to Visual Culture, ARTH 16000 Art Across Cultures, or ARTH 11400 Architecture Across Cultures, since students who major in Art History must take two of these three classes.  Students with a particular interest in architecture should consider either ARTH 11300 Elements of Architecture, or ARTH 11400 Architecture Across Cultures, since both of these courses are required of students who either elect the Concentration in Architecture within the Art History major, or elect to major in Architectural Studies.
