Opportunities for Students

Presentation of Student Work

Every Spring, students have opportunities to gain important experience in publicly presenting their work:

Whalen Symposium

IC has the James J. Whalen Academic Symposium every April (though application deadlines are much earlier).  This has the great benefit of being convenient for both speaker and the speaker's friends cheering them on.

Phi Alpha Theta Regional Meeting

IC history students can also present at the annual western New York regional meeting of Phi Alpha Theta, the history honors society.  This is a great opportunity to meet other history students from the region and to present your work and see some of the best work arising from other schools.  Except for those years when IC hosts the event, it requires a short trip (on a Saturday in April), but it is well worth it -- a great experience for those who participate.  We have regularly had students who win "best" papers at the conference -- a very nice accomplishment.

NCUR

Students could also consider applying to present at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR) -- IC might be able to fund a student travel to present there.
