History Department's Vivian Bruce Conger Presents on Eighteenth-Century Home Life

Vivian Bruce Conger, associate professor of history, presented her working paper, "'There is graite odds between a mans being at home and a broad': Deborah Franklin and the Eighteenth-Century Home," at the Upstate Early American History Workshop, Binghamton University, State University of New York.

In this paper Conger explores the ideologically, materially, and architecturally gendered constructions of the early American house.

Faculty and graduate students from upstate New York and northern Pennsylvania read the precirculated paper.

The workshop began with a brief comment by a Binghamton University faculty member and then proceeded to an open discussion of the paper.
