Zielinski, Matt

As far as the big stuff, I graduated from Canisius College in May 2008 with a Master's degree and NYS certification in Students With Disabilities, 7-12.  Last school year, I got my first long-term substitute job at Hamburg High School as a special education/math teacher, which went really well.  I did far better teaching math than I ever thought I would.  I learned that if you aren't that familiar with the material and have to learn it yourself, then you become much better at explaining it.  I guess it's also why peer tutoring is so effective as an instructional technique.

Also, this year at Hamburg High School, I got a 0.4 job as a resource room teacher in the Special Education Department.  This gave me the opportunity to work with students in a smaller setting and to really get to know their learning styles and what works best for them.  It also gave me a chance to gain valuable experience in writing IEPs for students and all that that entails.
