Scholarships and Awards
The History Department is pleased to be able to offer a number of scholarships and awards to our students. Two of these awards require students to apply and submit written work to be examined as part of the evaluation process.
The Robert A. Ryan Prize
The History Department announces a competition for the Robert A. Ryan Prize. We will be giving the following awards:
· Up to 3 senior awards at $4000
· Up to 3 junior awards at $3000
· Up to 3 sophomore awards at $2000
All applicants must have (1) a minimum GPA of 3.3 in history classes and a 3.3 overall, and (2) enrolled in a minimum of 12 credits of history taken at IC. If a student has not completed 12 credits, they must ask their history professors to sign a form attesting to their current course grade. If you meet these prerequisites, please submit 3 papers you have written from at least 2 different history classes. Please provide a brief cover letter explaining how these papers illustrate your approach as a student of history.
The deadline for this prize is Monday, February 27, 2012. Please submit your portfolio either in hard copy to Muller 412 or email your submissions to Michael Trotti. Late submissions will not be considered.
The Hal Emery Writing Award
The Hal Emery Writing Award is given in recognition of exemplary written research work in upper level history classes. A call for submissions will be circulated in the spring.
If you have any questions about these or other History Department Scholarships, please contact one of the members of the department’s Scholarships and Awards Committee (Lu Liu, Pearl Ponce and Michael Trotti).
