The Social Work minor provides an opportunity for students interested in social work and human services to gain a basic knowledge and understanding of the concepts that underlie the helping professions. Students will be exposed to the history of the social work profession and historical approaches to the movements that created the discipline. The required courses will provide an introduction to all of the faces of social work from community organizing and counseling to current psychotherapeutic approaches. The student field placement will cap a learning process that weds theory and practice in an interesting, exciting experience. The minor is an ideal starting point for those interested in a Masters of Social Work program.
