The Department of Theatre Arts finds its home in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Ithaca College. The Department, which has been an integral part of the College since 1897 (five years after its founding), has approximately 360 majors and offers five degree programs and two minors.
For more than 70 years the Department of Theatre Arts has drawn students from across the United States and around the world. With over 30 faculty, all of whom are professionals in their individual fields of study, we embrace professional standards in the studio, classroom, and production laboratory. Our Alumni share a rich history and bring credit to themselves and to the Theater Arts department. With over 1200 applicants per year, we are committed to attracting a diverse body of students to our rigorous, highly individualized programs.

The Ithaca College Department of Theatre Arts is dedicated to developing the intellectual growth, creativity, aesthetic appreciation, professional preparedness, and character of its students by combining rigorous training with a liberal arts education. Learning in this department is a collaborative experience which embraces professional standards in the studio, in the classroom, and in the active production laboratory. The department is committed to attracting a diverse body of talented students through a highly selective, national audition/interview process. We strive to prepare students who will participate vigorously and generously in a global community that encompasses the theatre, film, television, and entertainment industries.
The Department of Theatre is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). This association sets national standards for curriculum and production programs at the undergraduate level for institutions of higher learning. Ithaca College’s Department of Theatre Arts undergoes an extensive accreditation process in order to maintain the highest standards of quality and integrity of its degree programs.
