Dramaturgy assignments are open to all junior and senior theatre arts majors.Students who wish to be considered for a dramaturgy assignment must have taken or be taking Dramaturg I. Also, they must have received a B+ or better in Script Analysis, Intro to Theatre, First-Year Comp or Academic Writing, and History of Theatre I. Preference will be given to applicants who have also completed Dramatic Literature I.
These positions are intended to provide the student dramaturg with the opportunity to participate in a Mainstage and faculty-directed McCarroll Theatre productions as a production dramaturg. The student dramaturg will become an integral part of the creative team. Responsibilities will include shaping the vision of the production with the director, attending design and production meetings, preparing the text as needed, preparing the research packet, writing the program notes, doing the lobby design, moderating the ICSM Theatre Appreciation Initiative (Fall) and a post-show discussion, among others.
Students who meet the above criteria should submit an application to the chair of the theatre arts department. Applications are due the first Monday after Spring Break, by 5pm. The chair will initiate the approval process through consultation with appropriate members of the faculty.
The application should include:
- A written statement of purpose (why you wish to undertake a dramaturgy assignment)
- A current resume
- A list of production titles, in order of preference, along with a rationale for each
