Dr. Thomas Stockmann is a whistle-blower in a small, coastal Norwegian town bent on making a profit from the tourists who visit its mineral springs for their health. Dr. Stockmann risks the welfare of his family, his livelihood, and his very life to defend his conviction that the economic engine of his town, the mineral springs, is a source of pollution and disease. Arthur Miller, widely considered a leading playwright of conscience in American theatre, adapted Ibsen’s drama.
