Smith, a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award nominee, presents a small Brooklyn neighborhood caught in a storm of ethnic tension. Winner of a Drama Desk Award, “Fires in the Mirror” follows the Orthodox Jew and Afro-Caribbean residents of Crown Heights during the devastating summer riots of 1991.
“I was raised by a woman who taught me to look at an issue from both sides,” said director Cynthia Henderson. “My biggest challenge with this play has been to not take sides, because all sides need to be given a fair hearing.”
