With lyrics & book by Tony winners Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine respectively, Into the Woods takes you into the world of some of your favorite fairy tale characters. Winner of multiple Tony Awards, Into the Woods follows a childless baker, a precocious girl in a red hood, and many other curious beings who discover what is most important in life as they make their journey through the woods.
When asked what she wants audiences to take away from this production, director Susannah Berryman stated “Into the Woods ambitiously touches on all the major themes, dilemmas, and essential experiences that many of us will undergo in the course of our lifetime—birth, loss, short-term infatuation, long-term love, calamity, discovery, yearning, response to challenge, the development of wisdom, the creation of families, and more. Through Stephen Sondheim’s mature and vigorous score, each of the characters figures out the nature of her and his own Woods and learns what is to be gained by venturing within them.”
The Into the Woods production team includes scenic designer Tom Burch, lighting designer Maxwell T. Robin ’14, costume designer Anna Eden ’14, and sound designer Don Tindall.
