This past May, two faculty members—Jeffery Meyer, director of orchestras, and Brian DeMaris, director of opera and musical theater—helped IC earn five placements in The American Prize annual competition for several campus music and arts programs.
Ithaca College Theatre will wrap up its 2012-2013 mainstage season with Arthur Miller’s adaptation of Ibsen’s “An Enemy of the People.” Performances will take place in the Hoerner Theatre in Dillingham Center on April 23, 25, 26, and 27 at 8 p.m., and April 27 and 28 at 2 p.m. A talkback with the dramaturg will follow the matinee performance on the April 27.
Directed by Associate Professor, Cynthia Henderson, “My Children! My Africa!” tells the story of Mr. M, an idealistic teacher in South Africa in 1984, who seeks to provide a future for his student Thami by forming a debate team with Isabel, a brave student from the local white school. But outside the classroom Mr. M’s hopes for Thami are challenged by their generational divide and increasing political turmoil. As the author of widely-produced plays such as “Blood Knot” and “Master Harold …and the Boys,” award-winning playwright Fugard was considered the theatrical voice of conscience during the apartheid era.
