At Ithaca College, you can expect to work on a variety of productions, including theater, opera, musicals, and dance. This exposure will ensure that you are prepared to enter the workplace ready to tackle any job you encounter.
The production program is a critical element for the design and technical student. The faculty sees the production program as an extension to the classroom. To this end you will be involved in production every semester you are in residence. You will begin as a crew member working on either props, paint, carpentry, lighting, sound, or on a costume crew. As you move to your second year, you begin to take on more responsibility, taking charge as either a master carpenter, master electrician, charge scenic artist, properties master, or wardrobe supervisor. As a design student you might also expect to assist one of the faculty as an assistant set, costume, lighting or sound designer in your second year. As you move into your third year, the responsibility increases further as you move into designing, technical directing, or taking the lead as charge scenic artist or properties master for a main stage production. By your final year you can expect to have a capstone experience entailing either the design of a major departmental production or another critical technical role.
