Submitted videotape or DVD audition packages must contain the following material:
I. Cover Letter
II. Resume and Photo
III. Videotape (1/2” VHS Format only) or DVD
A. Every auditionee must present two memorized contrasting monologues. Each monologue should be NO MORE than 1 minute in length. The total length of both monologues for people auditioning for the BFA Acting Major must not exceed 3 minutes including introduction.
B. Persons auditioning for the BFA in Musical Theatre should prepare, in addition to the monologues, two songs, one 16-bar ballad and one 32-bar up tempo. The total length of the monologues and songs for a BFA Musical Theatre major audition must not exceed 4 minutes including introduction.
C. Technical Requirements
1) Only one camera at a fixed angle with a fixed lens may be used.
2) The recording must be uncut and unedited and contain no material other than the audition.
3) Camera must be placed to obtain full-figure shots, not close-ups.
4) A neutral-to-dark background is best.
5) Piano accompaniment ONLY may be used for vocal auditions.
6) The auditionee is responsible for the quality of the recording. S/he must be clearly visible and audible.
7) 1/2” VHS format ONLY (8mm will not be viewed) or DVD
8) Videotape and DVD’s must be labeled! Please label both the box AND the tape. Unlabeled tapes will not be viewed.
D. Audition Suggestions:
1) Select audition material you like and understand. Choose material most appropriate to your age.
2) Make the audition simple and direct.
3) Do not use costumes.
4) Introduce yourself and your audition pieces before you begin the actual audition.
NOTE: Please be advised that once your submitted videotape or DVD is received it becomes the property of the Department of Theatre Arts at Ithaca College.
