Annual Writing Contest

Writing Contest Rules

1. The Writing Contest is open to all students registered at Ithaca College, full or part time.

2. Students may enter as many categories as they like, one entry per category.

3. Any manuscript that has been a winning submission in the Department of Writing’s Writing Contest in a previous year is not eligible for this year’s contest.

4. Manuscripts may be of any length, except for submissions in the poetry category, which must include a minimum of 25 lines of poetry.

5. Manuscripts must be submitted inside 8 ½” x 11” white or manila envelopes. The author’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail plus the category in which he/she is entering must appear in large letters on the envelope.  Manuscripts must be marked for entry, into one of the five categories of first-year essay, expository essay, creative non- fiction, fiction, or poetry. If in doubt about the category, please submit the entry and the judges will place it in the appropriate category.

6. Unfortunately, we are not able to return manuscripts.

7. Submissions must be received by 5:00 pm Friday April 10, 2009. You may bring submissions to the Writing Center or mail them. See reverse for address.

8. The decisions of the judges are final. The judges may choose no winner for a particular category if they find no manuscript, in their estimation that merits award.  Winners will be announced April 23, 2009 on the Writing Department’s main bulletin board and website.

9. If submitting in more than one category, please use separate envelopes.
