Biography

Born in Baltimore, Maryland, raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, I enrolled in The George Washington University as a Political Science Major (what else if you're living in Washington, D.C. as we're about to escalate the war in Viet Nam).  But I iquickly came to my senses and graduated with a B.A. in American Studies (William Faulkner was my favorite novelist because he patted my on my head when I was pony riding as a 10-year-old).  I did my graduate study in English and American  Literature at Cornell University, worked for a brief stint as a grant writer, and since 1979 have been a member of the Writing Department Ithaca College, serving as Director of the Writing Center for 20 years
