Cecilia Vicuña is a poet, artist and filmmaker from Chile. The author of 20 poetry books and the co-editor of The Oxford Book of Latin American Poetry, she performs and exhibits her work widely in Europe, Latin America, and the United States. An early practitioner of the improvisatory oral performance, her work deals with interactions between language, the environment, and the symbolic function of textiles. In Chile, she founded the Tribu No in l967, which produced anonymous poetic actions throughout the city. Exiled in London, she co-founded Artists for Democracy in l974 to oppose dictatorships in the Third World. In l975 she moved to Bogotá, Colombia, and arrived in New York in l980. In 2010, Her film/poem Kon Kon Pi was shown at the Museum of Modern Art.
