Frequently Asked Questions

How does the advising system work? How are courses chosen?

Finding an academic focus can be an uncertain journey, and excellent advising is crucial to the success of the Exploratory Program. All exploratory students are assigned to a faculty adviser who works closely with them to help identify evolving interests and possible areas of study. Faculty advisors guide course selection and provide advice about complementary coursework and opportunities outside the classroom. First-semester instructors serve as academic advisors for exploratory students, which ensures that there is frequent and meaningful contact with faculty advisors who are specially attuned to first-year students’ concerns. Exploratory students are also supported by the Academic Advising Center, where professional academic advisors connect students with resources for studying and transferring across Ithaca College’s schools, workshops for academic success, as well as access to academic support and enrichment services.
