Major: Business Administration (Management Co.)
Minors: Honors Program
How did you choose your major?
I took an Ithaca Seminar in the Honors Program called “Why Are We Here: Student Culture and the Problem of College.” For my final project, I decided to research programs for undecided students at different colleges around the country. The topic was incredibly enticing, and my work above and beyond the assignment requirements helped me realized the passion I have for student development within Higher Education. After I had this realization, I thought about which majors would help me begin my journey into Student Affairs. Out of all the possibilities, Business Administration stood out as one I thought I would really enjoy, so I went ahead and declared!
What was your favorite resource to use when you were an Exploratory student?
My four-year plan was what kept me going! During my first semester I began outlining which courses I would take each semester until graduation for the different majors I was interested in. I kept updating it each semester, and that’s what kept me on track and helped me see what room I had in my schedule for a minor and electives.
What do you like most about being an Exploratory Peer Mentor?
I know how intimidating it can be to get to college as an Exploratory student and be surrounded by other students who already have their majors and careers planned out. I love being able to make other Exploratory students feel comfortable in this situation by sharing advice about how I made it through and answering their questions!
What is your biggest piece of advice to a current Exploratory student?
Don’t be afraid to try something new! There’s no such thing as making a mistake in terms of selecting a course or declaring a major. Every course you take will come in handy in one way or another even if you can't see how while you're taking it. As long as you make a four-year plan and stick to it, you will still graduate on time!
