Honors in NYC 2010
This spring, Honors once again sponsored a daytrip to New York City. Once arriving in the city we had the opportunity to explore the celebrated Museum of Modern Art, which featured two exciting exhibits. We saw Monet’s Water Lilies,a collection of the French artist’s beautiful depiction of the flowers present in his home garden. Amazingly, several of these famous works he painted while suffering cataracts. The second exhibit celebrates an entirely different kind of genius. The Tim Burton exhibit presents a kooky collection of multimedia from the man most noted for his flavorful cinematic visions which include The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride, and the much anticipated Alice in Wonderland. We got the chance to dine, shop, and generally explore the city until dusk when the group met back up at the majestic Lincoln Center Opera House to enjoy Puccini’s La Boheme. This beloved opera is about a group of near-destitute artists who band together in the struggle for survival (a story that has since been modernized by Jonathan Larson into the hit Broadway musical Rent).
