International Visiting Scholars in Honors
The Ithaca College Honors Program has a global focus. Every year we sponsor international scholars to come to Ithaca and to teach in Honors. In AY2010/11 the prominent Indian novelist Kiran Nagarkar served as the Honors Scholar in Residence. Kiran's visit was aided by the Fulbright Commission, in fact, he was the first Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence ever to be administratively housed in an honors program. In fall 2011 we will begin an ongoing seminar in honors called The International Scholarly Conversation. Directed by Professor Rachel Wagner, this seminar will bring in a series of prominent international scholars who work in a wide variety of disciplines. Before each scholar comes to campus the seminar will read key works that will contextualize their visit. As an ongoing project the seminar will probe the dialectical relationship between the cosmopolitan and particular cultures within which international scholars inevitably work.
