Introduction and Dean's Welcome
Realize Your Potential
A liberal arts education in the School of Humanities and Sciences prepares students for life in a rapidly changing, multicultural, and globally inclusive world. There are many paths students can follow, but no matter what course of study they choose our students develop intellectual flexibility, critical literacies, and the ability to integrate learning and socially responsible action. These capabilities are increasingly in demand in today’s knowledge-based world and required for citizens of the 21st century to lead informed lives.
Explore Our Rich Curriculum
Through our general education program we provide H&S students with a broad foundational understanding of issues facing the human community. Through our majors we provide H&S students with the opportunity to focus in an area of study that excites them and to become proficient in research and scholarship as they learn their disciplines and become confident in their expertise.
Central to our students’ experience is the relationship with their teachers and advisers. These highly qualified faculty members, known for their research, scholarship, and creative and performance activities, are teachers of the highest caliber who put students first. They guide student learning in the classroom but also offer opportunities for students to put theory into practice through a wide variety of experiential learning activities.
Forge Your Own Path
Students make their own paths through the academic opportunities the School of Humanities and Sciences offers, and take advantage of a wide variety of educational possibilities across the school and the campus to build their own integrative and cross-disciplinary version of an H&S education. Some do this through one of our interdisciplinary majors or minors; others take on two majors or combine a major with one or more minor. No two students complete the same journey through H&S, but our commitment is to ensure each student’s education combines the breadth and depth that prepares them to take their place in today’s fast-paced world.
