a story about her daughter
the first few steps without sight
i picture a memory i have to invent:
i’m stepping one stair at a time
swaying, wobbling on my small feet that point in
the brown carpet seems to lift me
a tiny, wide-eyed creature
my hand barely able to grip the railing of smooth, worn wood
my mother awaits me at the bottom
eyes anxious, mind calculating
how to tell the tale
Natalie Ferrigno is a junior majoring in writing. For inspiration, Natalie says, “I tend to write what I know. My poems are usually spare and short. I like ‘taking pictures’ with words and trying to infuse them with a bit of meaning. A friend once said that I seem to be searching for ‘the perfect image.’”
