Travel Guidelines for H&S Faculty

H&S FACULTY PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND

Each full-time H&S faculty member is eligible to receive UP TO A TOTAL OF $1,500 for professional travel during AY 2009-2010, with maximum allocations as follows:

  • up to $1,500 for a conference or poster presentation, for participating on a panel, or for chairing a panel (proof of presentation/participation must be attached to the Travel Expense Report); or
  • up to $750 to attend a conference (attach a copy of the conference program to the Travel Expense Report); or
  • up to $1,500 is also available for travel for other professional development purposes such as participating in training workshops, or for research, with prior approval from the dean.

Part-time faculty are eligible for these funds at a prorated rate (based on the percentage of teaching load per semester). Part-time, one-year faculty are eligible for travel support only during the academic year (8/16-5/31).
Faculty members may use their funds for more than one reason during the year, but will not be provided funding over the $1,500 annual maximum.

NOTE: These funds DO NOT ROLL OVER FROM ONE YEAR TO THE NEXT (i.e., faculty cannot “save” money in one year and add it to the $1,500 maximum in the next year).

To activate these funds, faculty members must complete a Travel Authorization Form (instructions) as soon as purchases related to the trip are made (e.g., airline tickets), and at least two weeks in advance of traveling, and submit it to the Dean’s office for review and approval.
Failure to complete a Travel Authorization form in advance may jeopardize activation of these funds.

Absence from Classes
Faculty should not be away from campus more than three consecutive days on which the College has classes scheduled. Exceptions must have the prior approval of the dean. The total time away from classes per semester should not exceed one week. Travel during the first week of a semester is discouraged.
