Transitions are opportunities to explore and discover new truths, and with the new academic year we focus on the many possibilities that beckon. From the window of my office I watch prospective students visiting campus with their families, contemplating their futures. The excitement is palpable: this is a wonderful time to be at Ithaca College.
Liberal arts education in the School of Humanities and Sciences provides many different paths for our students' futures. We're the heart and soul of the academic enterprise, and we purposely represent a diverse range of intellectual traditions, methodologies, and habits of mind. Our faculty members are known for their research, scholarship, and creative and performance activities. They are also known for their teaching. We take great pride in our student-centered culture and the ways that we provide experiential learning opportunities, including faculty-student collaborative work that focuses on scientific research, culturally immersive travel and learning, civic engagement that brings about learning through service, and professional practice through engagement in structured internships.
Humanities and Sciences students acquire the tools for personal success. They also learn how to understand their responsibilities to society and to the world. We expect our students to leave Ithaca College with the proven ability, skills, and knowledge to make a difference. We expect our students to learn their full potential and to live up to that potential.
It isn't possible in this short letter to give you a full sense of the range of opportunity that Humanities and Sciences represents. Instead, I urge you to explore our programs by examining materials available on this website. If at all possible, visit us to discover for yourself the outstanding facilities and great natural beauty that set our campus apart.
