Curriculum Enhancement Grants
To meet the goal of further integrating experiential learning opportunities for students into the H&S curriculum, the Experiential Learning Committee has offered Curriculum Enhancement Grants to H&S faculty to provide support for course enhancement and development.
Three types of activities are supported by these grants:
- to modify or extend a course with experiential learning elements to meet all of the criteria outlined in the Framework for Experiential Learning (for example, a faculty member might add an on-going reflective component or incorporate public presentation by students)
- to incorporate an experiential learning component into a pre-existing course.
- to design a new course around an experiential learning core.
Eligibility
Full-time H&S faculty/instructors who are modifying/developing courses to be offered during the following academic year.
Awards
Seven awards of $500 were made in 2008; five awards of $1,000 were made in 2009, provided as stipends during the summer.
Terms of the award stipulate that grantees:
- attend a kick-off reception to meet other award recipients and members of the Experiential Learning Committee;
- provide evidence of the completed curriculum enhancement project (e.g., revised syllabus, new materials developed, modified assignments) in the fall;
- present this evidence in a public forum to H&S faculty, during an event to be scheduled during the following academic year.
The Curriculum Enhancement Grant program is currently under review.
