Name Change for Award Program
The H&S Ithaca Fund, made up of generous donations from H&S alumni, supports both competitive
grants and noncompetitive programs in the School. In order to more clearly identify and
underscore the distinctive nature of the competitive awards given out, the H&S Ithaca Fund
Award Program has been renamed the H&S Educational Grant Initiative
(beginning in fall 2007).
The Office of the Dean of the School of Humanities and Sciences coordinates two funding opportunities
to enhance scholarly research, teaching, and learning projects for our students, and offers a student
essay award. Click on the links below for detailed guidelines and application forms and

Humanities and Sciences
Educational Grant Initiative provides small grants ($250-$1000 range) to
H&S students and faculty for:
-course-based projects that enhance teaching and learning;
-student/faculty collaborations in scholarly projects; and
-individual student projects.
• Proposal deadlines for 2008-2009: September 22 and
February 23

The Fred L.
Emerson Humanities Collaboration Award provides stipends ($1500/semester, $3000/summer)
for select H&S students who undertake significant scholarly work in collaboration with an H&S
faculty member.
•There are two proposal cycles during the academic year, in the fall for spring semester
projects, and in the spring for projects taking place the following summer and fall.
•The fall 2008 deadline for spring 2009 projects will be announced in
September.

The C.P. Snow
Scholar Award includes a certificate and $500 recognizing a student who has successfully
combined scientific and humanistic studies at Ithaca College. Student applicants must have a
minimum 3.0 GPA, and must submit a transcript, recommendations, and an essay.
•The competition occurs each academic year in the spring, with a deadline in February or
March.
•The 2008 application deadline has passed.
