Students interested in a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering are invited to apply to the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. In the spring of 2010, the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation (established by Congress in 1986) will award scholarships to outstanding U.S. students who will be college juniors or seniors during the 2010-2011 academic year.
To be eligible, a student must be a current full-time sophomore or junior and must be pursuing a baccalaureate degree, have a B average or equivalent, stand in the upper fourth of the class, and be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or U.S. national, who will pursue a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. The scholarship award covers eligible expenses for undergraduate tuition, fees, books, and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 per year. Junior scholarship recipients can expect to receive a maximum of two years of support. Senior scholarship recipients are eligible for a maximum of one year of support.
In order to be considered for an award, students must be nominated by their institution. To be considered for nomination by Ithaca College, students must submit a preliminary application by Tuesday, November 10. The preliminary application should include the following materials:

The final deadline for this year’s nominees to submit their applications online to the Goldwater Foundation is 5:00 p.m. central time, January 29, 2010. Additional materials must be sent by regular mail directly to the Foundation; these should be submitted to the Dean’s office by Thursday, January 28.
