Blending service learning, collaboration-enhancing technology, and peer-based group projects, Proposal and Grant Writing helps students understand the work of fund developers and non-profit administrators. "Non-profit administrators are always juggling several conflicting realities--social, political, financial--within limited time and with a limited staff. That's what I want my students to get a taste of" says Spencer. "What I hope they leave with is the belief that even within these constraints they can affect social change--not just do good, but really facilitate strategic change with a written proposal for the benefit of communities."
