|Lindsay B. Simpson|
|Professional Excellence Award in Health Sciences - Nutrition Emphasis|
A Penn Yan, New York native, Lindsay always knew she wanted to pursue a health related career in which she could help others. After struggling to determine which path was right for her, she discovered her passion for nutrition after taking Human Nutrition at Ithaca College. Over her time at IC, Lindsay has been actively involved in the Nutrition Club, and her interests in the local food movement and holistic health and healing led to volunteer positions with the NY Coalition for Healthy School Food and Ithaca Community Acupuncture.
Her internship at a rural nutrition clinic in the Philippines was by far the most memorable experience of her undergraduate career. This internship was an opportunity for her to directly apply the knowledge and skills she acquired in the classroom to the lives of those in need. After participating in daily feedings, monitoring children’s growth, establishing a community garden, and giving health lessons to various groups in the community, Lindsay realized how much she enjoys working on global health projects, resulting in her desire to volunteer on a nutrition project in a low-income country following graduation. After that, she plans on pursuing a Master’s degree in either acupuncture and Asian medicine or nutrition.
