|Professional Excellence Award - Teacher Education|
For most of my life I have known I wanted to be a teacher. Growing up in Farmington, Connecticut, I had two physical education teachers that helped me become the person I am today. They have inspired me to follow in their footsteps and become a health and physical education teacher. Ithaca College was the perfect college for me. Not only does it have an excellent health and physical education program, but it also has a Women’s Varsity Golf Team. I have been on the Women’s Varsity Golf Team all four years at IC, which has been a positive experience I will never forget.
In my last semester of college, I student taught health education to seventh graders and physical education at the elementary school level. This was one of the best experiences I had at Ithaca College. I not only grew as a teacher, but I learned a lot about myself. It is the best feeling to see your students improve and succeed after you have taught them something. I was only at my two placements for about seven weeks, but these students had a huge impact on me. It was difficult to say goodbye to them. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience.
