Paul GeislerAssistant Professor and Program DirectorExercise and Sport Sciences

I started teaching at Ithaca College in 2005 after 11 years practicing athletic training in myriad professional settings, and 7 years as an educator and program director at Georgia Southern University, in Statesboro, GA. If you've heard the Allman Brothers' rendition of Blind Willie McTell's "Statesboro Blues", you know a little about this small town 45 miles west of Savannah, GA. Yes, it's small, and yes it's southern. The other claim to fame for GSU is that it has won 6 Division I-AA national championships in football!
I grew up in southeastern Massachusetts, Lakeville to be precise; the home of Ocean Spray Cranberries, and the now defunct Ted Williams Baseball Camp. And yes, I have been a lifelong Celtics, Patriots, Bruins and of course, a passionate and once tortured SAHHHHX fan! I'm also an ardent Carolina Tar Heels fan, and rarely miss watching a Heels hoop game if I can help it.
Professionally, I'm somewhat of an enigma as I have 2 degrees in sports medicine and athletic training, and an educational doctorate in curriculum theory & cultural studies. I may be the only one that bipolar in my field(s), and it should be evident by looking at some of my diverse scholarship. All in all, I try to blend my home discipline with my views on curriculum, philosophy, and cultural studies as they relate to higher education and intellectual development. So, if you are in the mood to chat about sports medicine, educational theory/philosophy, or the works of John Dewey, Michel Foucault, Francois Lyotard, Gilles DeLeuze or Michel Serres over a cup of coffee, stop by!
I spend a lot of time watching and helping my sons, Nicholas and Benji play soccer, assisting with their educational and personal growth, cooking and dining with my lovely wife Susan, and photographing the beautiful outdoors and my family (check out my photo gallery). My family and I absolutely love Ithaca and we look forward to many happy and productive years here in the heart of the Finger Lakes!
