Ithaca College Board of Trustees Grants Faculty Promotions

Ithaca, NY—At its May meeting, the Ithaca College Board of Trustees granted promotions to seven faculty members.
Katharyn Howd Machan and John Wolohan were promoted from associate to full professor; Susan Avery, Donald Beachler, Elisabeth Nonas and David Pacun were promoted from assistant to associate professor; and Ron Schassburger was promoted from lab instructor to assistant professor.
 
Katharyn Howd Machan, Department of Writing, was promoted to associate professor and awarded tenure in the School of Humanities and Sciences in 1999. She received her B.A. from the College of Saint Rose, her M.A. from the University of Iowa, and her Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
 
John T. Wolohan, Department of Sport Management and Media, was promoted to associate professor and awarded tenure in the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance in 2003. He received his B.A. from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and his J.D. from Western New England College School of Law.
 
Susan J. Avery, Department of Music Education, joined the School of Music in 2000. She received her B.M. and Ph.D. degrees from the Eastman School of Music and her M.M. from Ithaca College.
 
Donald W. Beachler, Department of Politics, joined the School of Humanities and Sciences in 1987. He earned his B.A. from West Virginia University, and his M.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell University.
 
Elisabeth Nonas, Department of Cinema, Photography and Media Arts, came to the Roy H. Park School of Communications in 1996. She received her B.A. from Vassar College and her M.F.A. from New York University.
 
David Pacun, Department of Music Theory, History, and Composition, joined the School of Music in 2000. He earned his B.A. from Swarthmore College and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Chicago.
 
Ronald M. Schassburger, Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences, came to the School of Health Sciences and Human Performance in 2001. He received his B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles, his M.A. from the University of Oregon and his Ph.D. from Cornell University.
