MISSION STATEMENT:

To prepare ethical, competent health promotion, and health and physical education professionals within a liberal education background to work in diverse settings with multicultural populations.

 

PROGRAM GOALS:

• To provide a comprehensive knowledge of health promotion and physical education.

• To provide a systematic, experience-based curriculum in the areas of health promotion and physical education.

• To provide training in the skills necessary for working with multicultural populations in diverse settings.

• To provide an environment that promotes and encourages life-long learning and professional and service-related collaboration.

 

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES - TEACHER EDUCATION:


Content Knowledge: The Health Promotion and Physical Education graduate demonstrates a rich and thorough understanding of content and skill knowledge, theories, and issues that comprise the discipline.

Planning and Instruction/Implementation: The  Health Promotion and Physical Education graduate plans and implements effective, developmentally appropriate lessons and curricula based upon sound principles of content knowledge, skill development, and pedagogy.

Positive Learning Environment: The Health Promotion and Physical Education graduate creates safe, healthy, dynamic, and motivational working and/or learning environments that encourage every worker, student, or client to meet standards, to develop independence, to become actively involved, and to collaborate.

Diversity: The Health Promotion and Physical Education graduate demonstrates and celebrates the unique nature, abilities, cultures, and characteristics of all learners, including literacy and second language acquisition, and is able to modify instruction so everyone can be successful.

Technology: The Health Promotion and Physical Education graduate effectively utilizes technology to enhance students’ learning and his/her professional growth and development.

Assessment: The Health Promotion and Physical Education graduate develops and utilizes a variety of assessment tools and techniques designed to evaluate student learning and performance, encourage student reflection and self-evaluation, provide feedback, and shape future lesson planning and curricula.

Collaboration and Outreach: The Health Promotion and Physical Education graduate fosters positive relationships and collaborates with a variety of target groups (e.g. students, colleagues, families, local community members, etc.) in order to promote and enhance the teaching and learning environment.

Professional Development: The Health Promotion and Physical Education graduate continually seeks to expand knowledge and improve effectiveness as a teacher, to make positive professional contributions, and to exhibit the professional disposition of an effective emerging professional.
