In 2003 a new pass point was established for the national licensing exam in physical therapy. Students and physical therapy programs across the country were warned that the change would result in a substantially lower pass rate, but the Ithaca College pass rate barely changed.
In 2002 the pass rate for first-time test takers from accredited programs in New York State was 74.1 percent, and nationally it was 83.7 percent while Ithaca College students had a 96.3 percent pass rate. In 2003 the pass rate for first-time test takers from accredited programs in New York State went down by almost 25 percent to 50.91 percent, and nationally there was a decline of 15 percent and the percent passing was only 67.6.
Despite these drops, Ithaca College graduates continued their great success on the exam. Their 2003 pass rate of 91.53 percent barely dropped from the 2002 rate of 96.3 percent.
Our hope that the class of 2004 would be even better was fulfilled! The pass rates for 2004 were:
Ithaca College, 96 percent
National average, 72 percent
NYS programs, 60 percent
Congratulations to all on this superb accomplishment.
