Keeping Musicians Injury Free
Most people don't realize that musicians can suffer health issues as a result of their profession, but they can. Carpal tunnel syndrome, stress injuries, and back pain are just a few of the problems they may suffer due to repetitive practicing and performing.
Through the Healthy Living for Musicians Institute, two new courses have been designed to help musicians heal the body and offer overall health protection.
"Knowing how to take care of your body and mind and de-stress are integral to becoming a successful musicians," says Christy Agnese, a senior assistant to the dean in the School of Music.
The new courses, which started this spring, examine the different types of factors, both physical and mental, that affect the performance of musicians. The College also offers an annual workshop in the summer to explore these issues.
