Acceleration of undergraduate degree
We occasionally see students with a large number of Advanced Placement (AP) and/or transfer credits and recognize that some of these students may want to request to accelerate the undergraduate portion of our program. We do not actively encourage acceleration. The pre-professional phase has been developed to provide opportunities for students to broaden their education and experiences and take full advantage of the strengths in the liberal arts and other opportunities at Ithaca College. The acceleration procedure outlined below, fosters reflection on this action and the impact on the applicant’s educational program.
In order to plan to accelerate, including participating in information sessions with the accelerated cohort, an application (available through the link to the right or from an academic adviser) must be filed and approved before the end of pre-registration, spring semester, freshman year. This signed document and letter with the information listed below should be discussed with the academic adviser who will sign it and forward it to the Department Chair for final action. The Chair will notify the student of action.
Information required:
- Reasons for accelerating in the physical therapy program.
- A description of academic and personal strengths that support the request for acceleration.
- An academic plan describing when and where the student will take courses to achieve the acceleration and fulfill
all curricular requirements within the required time frame.
