Megan Downes- Recreation Management
Hey! My name is Megan Downes and I am a Recreation Management (RM) major in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at Ithaca College.
I am from Moorestown, New Jersey, outside of Philadelphia. I love spending time with family and friends, helping others, traveling, and boating.
Recreation has been a part of my life for years! For example, I spent nine summers on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland at camp. During those nine summers I went from camper, to Leader-in-Training (LIT), to Counselor-in-Training (CIT), and finally a camp counselor and waterskiing instructor.
Traveling is a passion of mine. I spend a lot of time at the Jersey shore, Miami Beach, and have been all over the US and to London and Paris with my family. I can continue to fulfill my love of travel when studying in London this spring at IC's program there.
Here at IC, I started off in the exploratory (undecided) program. After taking two classes in the RLS department I feel in love with Recreational Management. Knowing my father (IC ’81) has experienced great success having graduated as a Recreational Management major, I was confident that this major would serve me well, too. I added a deaf studies minor as I have been interested in sign language and the deaf community since I was in elementary school.
This department has been nothing but amazing. I am part of a close-knit learning community. Due to the small size of the department and classes, I know my fellow students and professors well, which makes classes more fun, engaging and challenging. The multitude of real life experiences outside the classroom in many facilities around the area increases the depth of my experience. Joining the RLS department as a Recreation Management major is one of the best decisions I have ever made.
