Darielle Grossman- Recreation Management
Hi there! My name is Darielle Grossman, and I’m a Recreation Management (RM) major in the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies at Ithaca College.
I am from Randolph, Massachusetts. I have been lifeguard for almost five years and that was how I became interested in recreation as a career. I love to swim and am a water safety instructor (teach children how to swim). I have had experience in the field by working as a counselor at a nature camp as well as working at a camp for children with physical and mental disabilities.
I chose the RM major because recreation professionals truly provide a great and important service. Relaxing and doing enjoyable activities are a central part of our lives. Though the activities may differ for each individual, the need will always exist, and i will be educated in an area that will help serve people in this capacity. There are so many options within the field! I may want to pursue a career in travel and tourism, commercial recreation, or even a non-profit organization that works with children.
The program at Ithaca College is so great. It is small department, and has a close-knit atmosphere. I know all of the professors and they know me. I often have the same professor for multiple courses. The classes are fun and engaging. Because the major is so broad they are always willing to help a student narrow his/her focus on a specific career option.
Feel free to email me with your questions and hope to see you on campus soon!
