Outdoor Adventure Leadership (B.S.)

Careers in Outdoor Adventure Leadership

The outdoor adventure leadership major is designed for individuals who are enthusiastic about leadership, adventure, and outdoor activities such as backpacking, kayaking touring, high-alpine travel, rock climbing, and whitewater travel. Theory and experiential learning are combined to build outdoor adventure leadership knowledge and skills. Students also develop leadership abilities using sound judgment and decision-making skills.

  • Outdoor Education Theory and Techniques

Certification: Successful graduates are eligible for outdoor leader certification, which is recognized by employers across the country for enhancing the safety standards of adventure travel and increasing the quality of educational experiences. Our certification program is accredited by the Wilderness Education Association. Students will also become certified in wilderness medicine at the wilderness first responder level and will attain master educator status with Leave No Trace: Center for Outdoor Ethics.

Careers: Careers in outdoor adventure leadership are a thriving aspect of the leisure profession. Opportunities exist in outdoor leadership, outdoor education, team building, leadership development, camp management, natural resource management, environmental interpretation, programs that serve at-risk youth, and outdoor business enterprises, including the adventure travel industry.
