Careers in Recreation Management

Recreation and leisure professionals work with individuals in organized recreation to promote personal growth, fitness, wellness, creativity, healthy leisure choices, and overall quality of life. Recreation Management majors gain knowledge and skills in leadership, recreation program planning, group dynamics, facilitation techniques, cultural competence, supervision, and administration through a variety of in-class and experiential learning activities.

Students may combine this program with a minor -- for example, in business, psychology, sociology, health, coaching, or nutrition.

Certification: Graduates are eligible to apply for certification through the National Recreation and Park Association.

Careers: Recreation and leisure professionals work in parks and recreation departments, youth-serving agencies, fitness centers, nonprofit agencies, campus recreational sports, and camps. Graduates also pursue careers in recreation business enterprises, hospitality, tourism, and events planning, and at resorts, theme parks, convention centers, and visitors' bureaus.
