Physical Education (M.S.)

Courses

The physical education degree offers both a thesis and non-thesis option. Both options include a professional core of 9 credits, a physical education content emphasis of 12 credits, and 9 additional credits of course work. A total of 30 credits is required.

  • Professional Core Courses (9 credits)
    • Research Methods in Health and Physical Education (3 cr)
    • Survey of Statistical Methods (3 cr)
    • Critical Perspectives in Health and Physical Activity ( 3 cr)
  • Health Education Courses (12 credits)
    • Curriculum Development and Analysis (3 cr)
    • Strategies for Teaching Physical Education(3 cr)
    • Methods of Assessment in School and Community Settings (3 cr)
    • Physiological Basis of Fitness in School-age Children (3 cr)
  • Restricted electives (3 cr)
    • Students choose 3 1-credit seminars from current offerings; topics change yearly
  • Electives (6 cr)
    • Non-thesis - 6 credits of electives (Note that students who choose a non-thesis option must pass a comprehensive exam to graduate)
    • Thesis - Thesis I (3 cr) and Thesis II (3 Cr)
