ITHACA, NY— Young people from Central New York will have a chance for some hands-on experience in health career opportunities, including a chiropractic demonstration and a visit to a senior citizen residence, at HealthQuest, a weeklong program to be held at Ithaca College July 7–11. Open to students who will enter grades 10 through 12 in the fall, HealthQuest will also offer young students a taste of college life.
In addition to interactive activities in such career options as athletic training, gerontology, social work, physical and occupational therapy, clinical exercise science, clinical laboratory sciences, speech language pathology, and recreation management, the students will also participate in a hike to the top of Treman Park while learning the basics of fitness and healthy eating. A daily morning workout will also be part of the program. The camp will be conducted by practicing professionals and college instructors.
Now in its fourth year at Ithaca College, HealthQuest is sponsored by the Ithaca College School of Health Sciences and Human Performance, the Central New York Area Health Education Center (CNYAHEC) and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. CNYAHEC is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote improvements in training and developing health-care professionals in a 14-county area that includes Tompkins County.
