Symposium: Washington Professional Football Team Name and Mascot
The Department of Sport Management and Media, in conjunction with the Native American Studies Program, will welcome guest speaker Kandice Watson to campus Wednesday, December 11 at 7:15 p.m.
Kandice, a representative of the Oneida Indian Nation, will present the views of the Oneida Indian Nation and examine the controversy regarding the Washington professional football team name and mascot. Kandice will discuss the strategy being used by the Oneida Indian Nation to bring the issue into public discourse and the strategy used to influence the views and decision making of Dan Snyder (owner of the Washington professional football team) and Roger Goodell (NFL Commissioner).
The symposium — open to all campus and community members — will be held in Textor 101. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session.
